Tell us your stories!
Over the next few weeks, the site will be evolving into an information bank centring on 20th century world history – particularly focusing on the two world wars. We will be documenting the origins of both conflicts, the leading personalities involved, how the wars were fought and the consequences of them.
We are however committed to hearing your own stories of issues surrounding the two wars. Everyone who lived during the period has a story to tell, and no matter how trivial these may seem, they are invaluable in aiding historians in filling the seemingly infinite amount of gaps in their knowledge.
Oral history is very much at the forefront of academic research and historians such as Richard Holmes and Richard Bessel have dedicated much time to furthering our knowledge of how the two wars were fought by “ordinary people”.
It is a common misconception that history is written by the powerful and the evolution of oral history recognises that whilst politicians and military leaders direct the masses, the unsung “ordinary” person in the street not only allows history to be written but ultimately bears the repurcussions of it.
If you have any interesting anecdotes relating to either world war, whether these be your own personal recollections or experiences of previous generations which have been diseminated down to you, please do not hesitate to contact us.
It goes without saying that any information will receive will be treated with the upmost decorum and respect.
