“Lost” photos of Nazi leader set to be auctioned
Previously unseen photographs of Adolf Hitler are set to be auctioned at Mackworth Hotel, near Derby.
The black and white prints feature the Nazi leader during the Summer of 1944 and are set to be sold at a two day auction between 23rd-24th April – the guide price being £100-150.
Amongst the collection are photographs of Hitler presiding over his troops performing the infamous goose step march at Evere Airfied (near Brussels ) thought to be captured during September 1944.
It is assumed that the camera used to take the photos was misplaced during the Nazi evacuation of Belgium and subsequently recovered by a British troop stationed in the country during their liberation.
The prints have been kept in an album and stored by Eliza Smith who was formerly a secretary at Allestree Hall in Derby. Recently these have been recovered hand handed over to Derby County Council – he hall’s current owner.
Hanson’s auctioneers have been commissioned to auction these rare pieces of military nostalgia and speaking to the Daily Mail, Charles Hanson stated –
“The social context of the images are evocative of a sad past in world history since there are also images of Belgian patriots hanging on the streets of Rue de la Loi”
